Our company is based in the territory of Ascoli Piceno, in particular in Acquasanta Terme. This area was already well known at the time of the Roman Empire for its travertine mines. Tito Livio (a Roman historian and philosopher) quoted Acquasanta’s thermal baths in his works. The stone used to build the most beautiful and characteristic monuments of Ascoli Piceno was mined from this very place over the centuries. Let’s think about the magnificent Cathedral of S.Emidio, the adjacent hexagonal baptistery and the so-called “Italy’s parlour”, the famous Piazza del Popolo overlooked by the majestic Palazzo dei Capitani del Popolo.
The economy of Acquasanta’s territory has always been related to the extraction of travertine and its processing. In a not too distant past, almost all men were employed as gravestone workers, it was a really tough and dangerous job which unfortunately caused many victims. A statue was built in the hamlet of Paggese in memory of all those people and they are commemorated on 1st May every year.
In this background Acquasanta Marmi srl was born. Initially, the passion for travertine was handed down from father to son, Alberto Moretti, who grew up watching his father (master craftsman) skillfully creating marvellous sculptures from simple rocks. After gaining more expertise and skills over time, in 1977, Alberto Moretti and Angelo Caringola established Acquasanta Marmi srl. Two different but complementary personalities: on the one hand, we have expertise and vast knowledge of materials, on the other there is innovation. A new type of company was born: marble wholesaler
Since the very beginning, the business started with the search for high quality materials which were directly purchased from Tivoli area’s mines. Therefore, the company began to compete immediately with the largest local companies. In 1996 the firm was taken over by Mr. Moretti and partly by Emidio Volpini, who had already co-worked as a consultant. The following year, Fabrizio Moretti, Alberto’s son, joined the company and soon became the CEO, thus strengthening a family tradition and expertise which have characterized the past thirty years.
Changes and difficulties set by the market, life and economy have never undermined our professionalism, our attention in choosing the right materials and our care for all customers. On the contrary, these factors have helped us to build and strengthen our company. Nowadays, Acquasanta Marmi srl offers its customers a wide range of travertine and other types of stones, in particular Travertino Romano, Acquasantano, Pietra Serena, Peperino, Limestone, targeting both national and international markets.
